How to winterize your pool
It's important to note that winterizing procedures may vary depending on your specific pool model. Please reach out to KW Fiberglass for guidance or assistance in winterizing your pool to ensure it is properly protected during the winter months.
Clean the pool
Thoroughly clean the pool by brushing the walls and floor, and vacuuming any debris or sediment.
Balance the water chemistry
Test and balance the water chemistry to ensure it's properly balanced before closing the pool. Adjust the pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels as needed.
Lower the water level
Use a submersible pump or the pool's filtration system to lower the water level below the skimmer and return jets. Follow local regulations for the appropriate water level.
Drain equipment
Drain water from the pool pump, filter, heater, and any other equipment by removing drain plugs or using a compressor or shop vac to blow out the lines. Consult equipment manuals for specific instructions.
Winterize plumbing lines
If applicable, use pool antifreeze to protect plumbing lines from freezing. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the proper amount and application method.
Remove accessories
Remove any pool accessories, such as ladders, handrails, or diving boards, and store them in a safe place.
Install a winter cover
Place a durable winter cover over the pool, ensuring it's securely fastened. Choose a cover specifically designed for fiberglass pools.
Winterize the skimmer
If your pool has a skimmer, install a skimmer winterizing plate or plug to protect it from freezing and damage.
Monitor the pool
Throughout the winter, periodically check the pool to ensure the cover is secure and there are no signs of damage or excessive water accumulation.
