How to open your pool
Remember to consult the manufacturer's instructions for your specific pool equipment and chemicals, and comply with any local regulations or guidelines for pool maintenance. Opening your fiberglass pool properly will help ensure a clean and enjoyable swimming experience.
Remove the pool cover
Carefully remove the pool cover, ensuring that no debris or water from the cover enters the pool.
Clean the pool deck
Sweep or hose off the pool deck to remove any dirt, leaves, or debris that may have accumulated during the off-season.
Reconnect pool equipment
Reconnect the pool pump, filter, heater, and any other equipment that may have been disconnected or winterized.
Remove winterizing plugs
Remove any winterizing plugs from the pool equipment, including the return jets, skimmer(s), and drain plugs.
Fill the pool
If the water level is low, use a garden hose or other water source to fill the pool to the appropriate level.
Clean the pool
Use a pool brush or vacuum to remove any debris, leaves, or sediment that may have settled on the pool floor or walls.
Test the water
Use a pool water testing kit to measure the water chemistry, including pH, chlorine levels, alkalinity, and calcium hardness.
Balance the water chemistry
Adjust the water chemistry as needed to achieve the proper balance. Add chemicals such as pH increaser or reducer, chlorine, alkalinity increaser or reducer, and calcium hardness increaser or reducer as necessary.
Shock the pool
Use a pool shock treatment to eliminate any contaminants and establish a proper chlorine residual. Follow the instructions on the shock product for dosage and wait times.
Run the pool equipment
Turn on the pool pump and filter system, and allow it to circulate the water for several hours to ensure proper filtration and circulation.
Monitor and adjust
Regularly test the water chemistry and adjust as needed to maintain proper balance and sanitizer levels.
